In the Name of the Lord
In Colossians 3:17 Paul tells the Colossians that “whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” What does this verse mean? What parts of this verse would give you any clues as to the meaning or teaching of this verse? The key part here is in the name. Or, by the authority. This is an important subject because if we do not know how to establish authority for something, well we’re just going to get in all kinds of trouble. We need to be able to point to the scriptures for any given practice we have as Christians. We need be ready to give a defense for the hope that is within us (1 Peter 3:15). But also we need to know how to establish authority so we can know what God has allowed and what He has not.
